A risky technology

This is a Climate Justice Testimony from Palle from Denmark taken in October 2010. Learn more about how you can collect your own testimonies to spread the stories of climate justice.

DANISH transcription: Jeg hedder Palle.

ENGLISH translation: My name is Palle. I’m from Aarhus and I’m active in the environmental movement, NOAH. In relation to that I’ve been in contact with a community in the Northern part of Jutland near Arelsminde, Birkelse, Provst is a really rural area — sparsely populated. This is an area which is selected by Vattenfall because they want to experiment with storing CO2 in from The North Jutlandic Power Station underground where those people are living. Since they are very dissatisfied by this they’ve created an association which is called “No to CO2 storage” — they don’t want to live on a dump like that. But they can’t get any promises about what their future will look like because now Vattenfall has shelved those plans. It’s a risky technology. We should not go down that road in my opinion and I’ve therefore supported these people in their fight against this storage. This is something we see in many places around the world. People will protest against living on top of those CO2 storage sites.
