27th – 28th November 2010: Climate Justice Assembly

In Brussels.

Responding to the urgent need for environmental and social movements in Belgium, and across Europe, to find spaces to come together, share experiences, develop strategies and take action for climate justice, FoE Flanders & Brussels, and allies from social and environmental organisations in Belgium, are proposing a “people’s assembly” in Brussels to coincide with the start of the Cancun summit. This would be a 1 or 2 day conference of environmental and social movements from Belgium and across Europe in Brussels on 27th (and possibly the morning of 28th) November.

Participants would be from social movements, environmental organisations, as well as members of the general public.

There could be three broad strands for the event:

  • Discussion and debate with speakers from various movements and parts of Europe, sharing their different perspectives on their work for climate justice.
  • Workshops and cultural events to share stories of the struggle for climate justice from around Europe, allowing groups to spread their experiences, calls for action, and to make links with others facing similar problems.
  • Concrete planning and strategy discussion for the end of 2010 and 2011.
  • Again, plans are still in the very early stages, but we’re looking for an indication of which groups would be willing to participate in such an assembly. Please get in touch with david.heller(at)foeeurope.org if you’re interested. Keep an eye out for more information about this event.

The Climate Justice Assembly will certainly be a place to showcase some of the climate justice testimonies collected by groups from around Europe.
